Catalog import assigns categories more precisely
When importing product catalogs, items now land in the matching subcategory instead of a similar-sounding top-level category.
The problem
The import assigned items by similar-sounding category names. As a result, rims ended up in “Car tires & rims” instead of “Rims”, motorcycle tires under collectibles, and in product feeds without a group number all items received the category of the first row.
The solution
The assignment now checks the full category path and the type of goods: for “motorcycle tires”, “Tires” counts, not “Motorcycle”. Each product group is assigned individually, and the most precise matching subcategory wins.
In brief
Why is an imported item in the wrong category?
When importing product catalogs, items now land in the matching subcategory instead of a similar-sounding top-level category. The assignment now checks the full category path and the type of goods: for “motorcycle tires”, “Tires” counts, not “Motorcycle”.
